What is that plastic piece on my hard drive pins?
I've seen them on a lot of hard drives. It's a little plastic block that goes over 2 pins. I think i've seen it cover more. The pins go through the block thing. It doesn't prevent the hard drive from working either. What is this strange thing's purpose?
The plastic piece is called a jumper and sets the configuration of the hard drive from Master (first boot hard drive), Slave (second boot hard drive), CS or Cable Select which let's your IDE cable select Master and Slave configurations via which IDE input is connected to which drive where the black input is Master and gray is Slave, and a Manufacturer's Default setting. I hope that made sense.
