The SMTP Mail Server Software is one of the best ways to deal with our incoming mails. It stands for 'Simple Mail Transfer Protocol'. Itâs a protocol that solely controls the sending part of a mail. For example, when we login our mail account like âgmailâ, or ârediffmailâ, our patron computer connects with SMTP server. In this set-up, there is a by-default e-mail id, namely 'username@mailsite.com'.
The SMTP server gets sent mails through the port 25. Then it differentiate the user name and mail site name. Providing the fact the site name and the mail site from where the mail is sent, are the same, then the SMTP server forwards the mail to its Post Office Protocol (POP3) or IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) server. For instance, the sender sends a mail from his or her gmail account, and the receiverâs email id is also a gmail account, then the gmail SMTP server would forward the mail to the Post Office Protocol 3 or Internet Message Access Protocol gmail server.
On the other way around, if the sent email id is from a dissimilar site like âymailâ, then the gmail SMTP server will get in touch with the DNS (Domain Name Server) and request the IP addresses of the ymail server and then forward the mail to the ymail SMTP server .
